Hobby Startup KPI Update #6

26 May 2015 #devlog #gamedev #indie #revenue #kpi #frvr

Today I finally submitted Solitaire FRVR to iTunes for distribution on iOS devices. As this is a major internal milestone it’s time for KPI Update #6.

The vast majority of my time was spend attempting to make Solitaire FRVR more than a MVP.

With this release count Solitaire FRVR as complete and will be spending the next few months focusing on building userbase and increasing revenue while preparing to build the next games.

Revenue

Since I have been heavily focused on building version 3.0.0 of Solitaire FRVR the revenue numbers are not particularly impressive.

$10.35 - From Ad4Game
$5.31 - From Life Street Media
$240.54 - From Google AdMob
$57.14 - From Google AdSense

Total new revenue $313.34

Ad4Game and Live Street Media has gone to almost nothing as I have stopped showing ads on Facebook choosing to focus on quality of game rather than revenue with 3.0.0.

All Google Adsense revenue is directly related to the user acquisition test I ran a month ago. As the game had retention issues not a lot of new revenue was generated. However $41.05 worth was created by the Facebook campaigns, making the total revenue created $116.77 on a $100 spend. Cash flow positive at 16.77%! Over the next few months I will continue experimentation to see if it scales. If it does, I created a money making machine.

Equally interesting is Google AdMob. Prior to version 3.0.0 I had a small banner in the bottom of the game promoting the Android version which resulted in 1426 installs. Today these installs has created a total of $287.11 revenue or about $0.20 per install. With 3.0.0 I switched to an interstitial ad format rather than a banner; combined with early indicators that users will play the game for months, it looks like the mobile versions could be quite a good business.
